Actions & Initiatives

The actions initiated by Aviesan are part of a scientific and operational coordination objective between French research stakeholders of life and health sciences

The actions and initiatives of the French National Alliance for Life and Health Sciences (Aviesan) respond to two key objectives aimed at stepping up national coordination between its participants, operators, funding agencies and industries.

Scientific coordination

Acquire new capacities for strategic analysis and programming at national level and lend a hand in running scientific communities

  • Strategic analysis/scientific management

For the first time in France, the very best experts from all institutions have:

  • reviewed the current situation of French research for each theme with a view to painting an exhaustive picture of existing activities, skills and resources
  • analyzed the strengths and weaknesses and identified priority research themes
  • written strategic guidance documents for each theme.
  • Research actions/programming
  • Agreement with the French National Research Agency (ANR) and involvement in the sector committee
  • Interactions with the Hospital Program for Clinical Research (PHRC)
  • Research programs on the H1N1 virus
  • Alzheimer’s and similar diseases
  • Gestation of inter-organization projects via the Inter-Organization Steering Committee (COPIO)
  • Call for proposals for future investments

Operational coordination

Coordinate the Alliance’s actions in keeping with the strategic analysis to improve the visibility, responsiveness and appeal of French research in life and health sciences; foster the emergence of large research clusters through measures jointly initiated with universities and research operators

  • Institutional organization

Thanks to the efforts made, it has been possible to:

  • Set up operational governance
  • Forge research partnerships through associated members (EFS, Institut Telecom)
  • Develop a site policy
  • Create an ad hoc group within the French Board of University Chancellors (CPU)

Other joint actions

  • Drawing up a charter common to Aviesan members for the addresses and affiliations of scientific publications
  • Approximation of ATIP (CNRS) and Avenir (Inserm) programs for young researchers through an ATIP-Avenir project and standardization of the two organizations’ recruitment processes

Singapore Statement on Research Integrity

The value and benefits of research are vitally dependent on the integrity of research. While there can be and are national and disciplinary differences in the way research is organized and conducted, there are also principles and professional responsibilities that are fundamental to the integrity of research wherever it is undertaken.
